Cold & Flu

MaryOn a personal note…

Myself and my daughter have had a cold with flu symptoms recently, one thing we noticed,  taking herbs and using essential oils did not seem to interfere with the course of the flu, we still ran a fever day 2 or 3 and over the course of 1 night that fever broke and we began to feel better. With herbs and essential oils we were able to rebuild our energy and immune system making for a minimal amount of sick time.

With over-the-counter things we might have taken, they lower the temperature so your body does not run the course of the flu naturally thus possibly increasing the length of illness.

Just a personal observation not sure how much science there is behind it. I welcome input, drop us an email or give personal input on facebook.

There’s an endless amount of over-the-counter medications at any regular drugstore to help you fight a cold, but before you decide to do that, you might want to consider heading over to your local aromatherapy shop for a more natural and effective solution instead. The right therapeutic essential oils may help.

According to WebMD, cold symptoms can be helped by rubbing certain essential oils on the body, inhaling them through steam by using a diffuser, and combining them with a damp cloth to be applied to the skin. Make sure you follow the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy’s safety guidelines to ensure you use essential oils properly to avoid potential adverse effects.

Risks of Artificial Sweeteners

SweetenersArticle by Dr Mark Hyman

“I know you’re not big on sugar and frequently tell people to cut down on it,” writes this week’s House Call. “But what about artificial sweeteners? Can I use those instead?”

Sadly, the answer is emphatically no. Human, animal, experimental, and other studies show artificial sweeteners can be just as bad and maybe even worse than regular sugar.

Artificial sweeteners have long been positioned as “guilt-free,” innocuous, safe alternatives, so why would I argue they are actually worse than sugar?

Manufacturers love to position zero-calorie sweetened foods and drinks as better because they create a “halo effect” and they know you’re more likely to buy them.
